Lyrics
You pulled the wings off the butterfly
You pulled the petals off the rose
All you’ve left are thorns
And thornier she grows
You’ve burned away her sweetness
And sprouting underneath
A monstrous garden
You’ve sown and so shall reap
Dare she cling to her paradise?
Or let the scales fall from her eyes?
Once these flowers bloomed
Now they’re rotting down to their roots
You scorched her in a desert
And when her roots have dried
It’s time for her to drown in mud
When you open up the sky
Neglect can sometimes make a garden
Wild and beautiful
But malice in her tending hands
Can turn her nature cruel
Dare she cling to her paradise?
Or let the scales fall from her eyes?
Once these flowers bloomed
Now they’re rotting down to their roots
Once she fanned her leaves in the light
Now they’re closed in eternal night
Once she ruled the day
Now she slowly wastes away
With vigilance your shears
Deftly trim away her leaves
And quick you are to turn away
From reaching cloying weeds
You’ve taken all the things she loved
And ground them in the dirt
And ripped out every fragile sprout
That dare break through the earth
Dare she cling to her paradise?
Or let the scales fall from her eyes?
Once these flowers bloomed
Now they’re rotting down to their roots
Once she fanned her leaves in the light
Now they’re closed in eternal night
Once she ruled the day
Now she slowly wastes away
